"Learning the value of ethics: My experience in the Zamboanga City Police Office"

It was our first time joining the Flag-Raising Ceremony with the Zamboanga City Police Office personnel also coincided with the celebration of PNP Ethics Day. Every year, the PNP celebrates Ethics Day to continually remind and reaffirm the devotion of PNP personnel to the ethical philosophy, which includes moral principles, discipline, and professional and morally upright police officers.

It is nice to know that every police station values ethics because it can help a lot in advancing the goal that gives us powerful tools for us to be trusted and respected by people as public servants. During the flag-raising ceremony, we witnessed the personnel awarded because of their achievements in their duty. We can say that this is one of the good ways to boost the morale of our people and make them more willing to work and make many accomplishments.

In the afternoon, we visited Regional training center 9 to witness and observe the activity program of those who underwent the Public Safety Basic Recruit Course (PSBRC). It is intensive and progressive training designed for newly-appointed police non-commissioned officers. To provide them new with the basic knowledge and skills in police science, administration, combat operation, and tactics and for them to acquire the norms of conduct required in the performance of their jobs as guardians of peace and protectors of lives and properties.

We speak one by one in front of them to introduce ourselves and inspire them in their training. We believe that even though we came from different institutions and training, we have a common goal: to serve and protect mankind. It is a word everyone knows, but only a few take it to their heart and know the real meaning of it. They will also work with us one day, so we should establish a good bond.

When we returned to ZCPO, we were unexpectedly allowed to join the briefing and presentation of the operation section for the upcoming primary event security as VIPs from other countries will give a symposium to the Muslim community held in Astoria Regency Hotel. We witnessed how much they plan to make the program successful without trouble. All plans are detailed and carefully studied on how to act just in case something goes wrong. These are the kinds of experiences that will enable us to mature and shape the way we think about the realities of a police job. [1] [2]

As a cadet of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), this experience made us realize that police work is not just about enforcing the law but also about protecting the public and maintaining order. We also learned that police officers must always be prepared and flexible to handle various situations. Police officers must be able to work together as a team and must be able to communicate effectively with each other. Finally, we learned that police officers must be ethical and always strive to uphold the highest standards of morality and professionalism. These invaluable lessons will serve us well in our future careers as police officers.
