On the second day of our Cadet Attachment Program, we woke up early. We prepared ourselves for the new knowledge we would be learning throughout the day.
Today, the staff duty officer toured us to different sections/units and had a familiarization in the area for our deployment about our CAP. We first visited the 2nd Zamboanga City Mobile Force Company, also known as the "Seaborne Company." We were given a few lectures about the functions and mandate of the Seaborne Company and its role in the community. Combating illegal smuggling activities that frequently enter Zamboanga City's boundaries via various watercraft is another responsibility of the seaborne company.
The various search and rescue operations for victims of flash floods are keeping the Seaborne Company busy during these challenging times because some areas of Zamboanga City are now affected by floods due to heavy rains. When different police stations in the Zamboanga City area request assistance with the workforce to carry out various police operations, they also respond to it.
In the afternoon, we participated in the KASIMBAYANAN Program of the ZCPO. We joined the police visibility forces and had our observation during the Santo Niño procession that started at Immaculate Conception. The M+K+K=K Program (Malasakit, Kaayusan at Kapayapaan tungo sa Kaunlaran) peace and security framework of the PNP is highly supplemented by the "Kasimbayanan" Program, which stands for Kapulisan, Simbahan, at Pamayanan.
The religious sectors, including the volunteer leaders from various inter-faith-based advocacy groups, are encouraged to help the police nurture relations with the community to bridge the gap between the police and the community. The Kasimbayanan Program also seeks to organize the community as peace advocates to ensure that every citizen is law-abiding. It also aspires for church leaders to counsel their members, thereby contributing to reformation.
As a cadet of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), this experience taught us the importance of understanding the functions and mandates of the different police units and their roles in the community. Building strong relationships with the community and religious sectors to bridge the gap between the police and the public and actively participating in programs that involve the community, as they are our partners in developing and maintaining peace and order in our community. We have been so blessed to be part of a family that has dedicated its life to public service. May God continue to guide and bless our careers as future public servants. [1] [2]
