"Building trust and strengthening relationships: The impact of 'El Pulis Mi Maestra' Program"

On the 13th day of our Cadet Attachment Program, we participated in the "El Pulis Mi Maestra" program at Rio Hondo Elementary School in Zamboanga City. The Zamboanga City Police Station personnel and the Universidad de Zamboanga Criminology Intern also attended the activity.
The "El Pulis Mi Maestra" Program is one of the best practices in Police Station 11. It is an initiative of the Station Commander, which intends to teach frustration levels (students have difficulty reading). This initiative will promote good rapport between the students, teachers, parents, and the police. This project also aims to strengthen police-community relations and anti-criminality efforts by establishing police visibility in the area through interactions with the students and teachers that will pave the way for bringing the PNP closer to the community.

This project's target is both the PNP's internal and external clientele. The internal audience is the PNP, while the external audience is the community or school. This project will improve students' reading comprehension. It will also provide an avenue to interact with the community, and at the same time, it will prevent the occurrence of crimes.
To ensure the success of this project, the school shall play the role of supporting the PNP. The police community relations section shall implement it. We also shared a quick message about how anyone in the community should not be frightened of the police. Usually, in children, it reinforces a wrong impression of the police and undermines their confidence in the PNP.
Right after the program, the teacher observes that their students are more participative in the discussion when the police and the cadets are the ones who are teaching. They are more willing to answer and learn, so the "El Pulis Mi Maestra" program is effective and a big help in building a good image and relationship with the public. With that, we can more easily get the community's cooperation in maintaining peace and order.
As a cadet of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), this experience has taught me the importance of police-community relations. The police must build trust and rapport with the community to carry out their duties effectively. This program has also taught me the importance of educating the public, especially the youth, about the role of the police and the importance of following the law. [1][2]
